Creating Happy Cells: Guided Visualisation Sessions with Gill Hickman
- time for you,
- time to connect,
- time to re-charge your batteries,
- time to give your immune system a boost.
Diagnosed HIV positive in 1989, artist Gill Hickman has remained healthy without medication for more than 18 years. She believes that her art and her daily visualisations help to keep her well. Her current paintings are inspired by the strong healthy cells she visualises.
Scientific evidence is now showing the power of the mind over the body. If we can learn how to create endorphins and other “feel-good” chemicals at will in our bodies, then maybe we can begin to think ourselves well.
I began meditating at Findhorn in 1993 while pregnant with my son. At that time, because of my HIV diagnosis, I thought I probably wouldn't live past 1999. For the last ten years I have made a 20 minute meditation part of my daily practice every morning. As my health and particularly my immune system are very important to me, so my visualisations have tended to focus on building and maintaining a strong immune system. The visualisations I will share have developed out of this daily practice.
In May 2008 at the Sacred Arts Peace Camp, I decided to offer other people the opportunity of joining me in my visualisations. These sessions were very well received and I am delighted to be able to offer them in London here at the Sunflower Centre.
The sessions are informal and relaxed, they will start with a bit of gentle stretching to release any tension from the body, then you can sit or lie comfortably while I lead you on a gentle journey into your own body or into your imagination. After the short visualisation there will be time for anyone who wants to share or discuss their experience or feelings.
Most participants report a deep sense of relaxation followed by a refreshing, energised feeling.
I run weekly sessions in blocks of 5, (people can drop in if they wish):
Summer Term starts Wed 3 June - these sessions are from 10 - 11am,
Cost is £8 waged and £6 unwaged. Payable in blocks of 3
