Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine is an ancient and complex system of treatment based on the diagnosis of each individual’s patterns and symptoms. Only plant-based products are used and never from endangered species.
As a practitioner of Chinese Herbal Medicine, I generally advise a course of treatment for a defined period of time, typically 3-6 months for chronic conditions. Response to treatment does vary according to the age and constitution of the patient, the severity and longevity of their symptoms and their general health.
Herbs are typically prescribed in balanced combinations so that they can work in synergy with each other, increasing efficacy and reducing the likelihood of side effects. I tend to work with freeze dried herbal powders which come from a quality-assured, approved and audited supply chain and are convenient for most patients to take.
Examples of conditions where Chinese Herbal Medicine can be particularly helpful are:
- Skin diseases e.g. eczema, psoriasis
- Gastro-intestinal disorders e.g. IBS, chronic constipation or diarrhoea
- Gynaecological conditions e.g. PMT, menstrual problems, menopausal symptoms, fertility
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Rheumatological conditions
- Urinary problems e.g. chronic cystitis
- Psychological and emotional issues e.g. depression, anxiety and anxiety-related insomnia.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is also suitable for children and pregnant women and has traditionally been used in the prevention of miscarriage.
I offer Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture at the Sunflower Centre on Thursday afternoon and evenings.
