The Story so far...
The plans were laid in the summer of 2017 and work commenced in the autumn. Since then, our gardening team at the Sunflower Centre has created a kitchen garden to offer educational, well-being and mindfulness activities as well as an opportunity for local individuals to join in communal gardening.
The garden space was designed by Elwood Amey, a local gardener and a trained homeopath, who has also run Forest Schools for children in his time. Elwood managed and worked alongside several volunteers to transform the side plot next to the Sunflower kitchen/staffroom. We now have a spacious outside classroom with raised beds in a series of terraces that make best use of the sloped ground.
FREE Gardening Workshops:
Now that our kitchen garden has been flowering and bearing fruit, we will run fortnightly FREE gardening workshops for anyone who would like to spend some time in the outdoors, meet other local residents and learn more about permaculture gardening.
These workshops will be run by local resident and gardener Tom Allen:
Tom’s a local gardener with a passion for growing organically getting the best tasting food whilst creating spaces for nature to thrive. The Sunflower Centre’s garden is a wonderful productive space to work in, you’ll get some distance from the bustle of the city and slow down to natures pace. We’ll be growing (and eating!) seasonal crops, looking after the soil and learning together. You don’t need to know anything about gardening to get involved – half the fun is making mistakes and learning as you go!
As places are limited due to the size of the garden, please reserve your free place by contacting us on 020 8694 2714 or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org
