Reflexology can resume now that the social distancing measures have been relaxed. Rieko will be offering sessions again from Monday 27th July.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure on the reflex points of the feet and hands. This brings about a state of deep relaxation, stimulates the body’s own healing processes and encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance.
Anyone can benefit from a reflexology treatment, and it may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
It is important to stress that reflexology does not aim to diagnose or cure.
Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:
* Stress related conditions
* Sleep disorders
* Digestive problems
* Back pain
* PMS and period pain
A course of several treatments is advisable to improve conditions. A client will often require four to six treatments to alleviate or overcome a specific problem. However, every client is an individual and therefore each treatment plan is different.
Maternity reflexology is specifically tailored to assist with the conditions of sub-fertility, IVF Support, pregnancy and childbirth.
"Sub-fertility" is the term used if conception has not occurred naturally after 12 months of trying for a baby. The inability to conceive can depend on many different factors (e.g. anxiety, stress, erratic eating patterns, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, over or under exercising) and it is important that both partners are in optimum health to encourage this to happen.
How can reflexology help?
Reflexology is a safe and calming therapy that helps to ease emotional and physical stress and tension. It works by balancing all the body systems, thereby helping to provide a healthy body in which conception can take place. Gentle pressure on reflex points balances the hormonal system and stimulates the reproductive organs to function more efficiently. Both men and women can benefit from treatments for different reasons, such as regulation of menstruation or stimulation of sperm production.
Please note that whilst many therapies (whether combined or used alone) have been successful, the speediest results, for both partners, are mostly achieved from the following combination: Herbal Remedies and Aromatherapy.
Also commitment to lifestyle changes by both partners can be important in helping to achieve a successful outcome.
During pregnancy our bodies go through structural, physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social changes. Some of these changes may produce discomfort and emotional problems. Reflexology, massage and aromatherapy can ease these discomforts and give you a warm feeling of well being. It can also help a mother to prepare physically and emotionally for the changes that occur during pregnancy.
Most women can benefit from having reflexology during pregnancy and there is NO EVIDENCE to suggest that Reflexology causes miscarriage. However, there are some cases where you may be advised to wait until after the 1st trimester. There are also some conditions during pregnancy that can be contraindicated, so it is advisable to obtain a referral or advice from your Medical doctor or midwife before your first appointment.
